WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE ICE RIBBON

Tips to Make the Most of Your Visit

Dress for the Weather

The Ice Skating Ribbon is outdoors, so be sure to wear your heavy coats, hats, and warm weather gear. We highly recommend all patrons wear a face covering (masks, gator or scarves) and gloves to help keep our community safe and healthy.

Fire pits are on during the day, however, heat is limited so come prepared for the cold weather. Bring an extra set of clothes, extra layers, and blankets if you plan to stay awhile.

Enjoying the heat? Thank you to Valley Wide Cooperative for your donation of propane this year!

During the evenings, propane heaters near the rink and additional heaters are turned on at approximately 6 PM in the Idaho Central Credit Union Stage Lounge. Even though additional heat is provided, it is still cold and not sufficient to keep you warm without the proper weather gear.

Items you don’t want to carry can be left in your car. You can take off your skates and return to your car if during your skating session if needed.

Parking

Ample FREE parking abounds in Downtown Caldwell in close proximity to Indian Creek Plaza. For quick and easy parking, check out Caldwell’s free parking map before heading down to the Plaza.

The TVCC parking lot (205 S 6th Ave, Caldwell, ID) is some of the closest parking to the Plaza Skate Shoppe where you will get your skate passes. After you park, cross over the bridge and take a right down Arthur Street. Once you get to the Plaza, you will see the Plaza Skate Shoppe immediately to your left.

The Lactalis USA Skate Shoppe

Skate rentals and passes are available at the Plaza Skate Shoppe located at the back of the plaza. Access to the Skate Shoppe is located on the Plaza side of the building. You can also call Skate Shoppe at 208-800-9032 for more information.

Selecting the Right Skate

Having a proper fitting skate is important for safety and comfort. Click here to learn more about selecting the right skate for you and how to fasten your skates properly. Feel free to ask to switch sizes (at the window in the hallway of the Skate Shoppe) if you rented the wrong size boot.

Helmets

Corwin Ford Helmets are FREE to use and are highly encouraged to wear while on the ice. They come in several different sizes for children and adults. You can ask for these at the Plaza Skate Shoppe at any point during your visit.

Skate Trainers

Skate trainers (buckets, walkers, penguin skate aides) are located in the center of the ice rink. You need ice skates on to get to them, but you can hold on to the railing as you find your way to the trainers. Trainers must stay in the rink/circle area of the Ice Ribbon.

Rink Guards

Rink Guards, the skaters in neon vests, are on the ice to make sure you have a safe and enjoyable experience. These employees and volunteers are skilled skaters and can help you learn to skate or give you tips. They also help enforce our glide-lines.
